Very easy Japanese quilt

It's not easy to appeal to a teenage boy... well not with a quilt anyway. But he got a new double bed and needed something warm, and after some thought I came up with this, the very easiest piece of sewing.

I bought half a metre of cotton fabric in a Japanese waves pattern - you can find this for sale all over the place but mine cost just over a fiver on eBay. Here is the link: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SB-Waves-Collection-Japanese-100-Cotton-Fabric-/121317111479?var=&hash=item1c3f1036b7

This made the top and bottom borders of the quilt as the fabric I bought for the main part was not quite long enough. That again was Japanese waves pattern but this time in black and white.

Cotton patch provided the quilt backing - they sell extra wide fabric and you will need 2m of it. I chose a black with white spots.

After sewing the top together you lay it on top of some quilt batting - it costs around £18 from Amazon or a quilting website. Make sure you get the right size for the size of bed - a double is 81x96 inches.

Then just smooth your quilt sandwich, and pin and smooth and pin and smooth. Then sew it up all around the edges and add in a quilting row about once every 30cms.

Bias binding last in a lovelybright orange which really makes it. You can of course use any kind and any colour but I bought two rolls of this from Amazon
